How to Use Budget Planner App: A Beginner's Guide

Jeetech · 2026-10-25

What is Budget Planner App?

Budget Planner App is a fast envelope budget app and manual budget tracker. You split your money into envelopes (like groceries, rent, or fun), then log spending against them by hand. There is no bank linking.

It is built around three ideas: speed, privacy, and clear math. The app works fully offline, needs no account, and keeps your data on your device.

Getting started

  1. Install and open the app. No signup is required.
  2. Pick a starting point. You can create sample envelopes or start from scratch.
  3. Set your amounts. Give each envelope an allocation, which is how much you plan to spend in that category.
  4. Log your first expense. The listing says you can do this in under a minute.

If you are new to envelope budgeting, the sample envelopes are a gentle way to see how everything fits together. You can change or delete them later.

Reading the main screen

The envelope list is your home base. Each envelope has a bar showing three things:

  • Allocated: what you set aside
  • Spent: what you have used
  • Remaining: what is left

Each envelope also has one-tap + Expense and + Deposit buttons.

Main workflows, step by step

Add an expense or deposit

  1. Open the app.
  2. Tap an envelope.
  3. Choose expense or deposit and enter the amount.
  4. Save.

The inline calculator supports +, −, ×, ÷, and %. That helps if you need to add up a receipt or work out a share. Smart defaults remember your last account and method, so repeat entries go faster.

Create your own envelopes

You can build custom envelopes and optional sub-envelopes, with icons and colors. For example, a "Food" envelope could have sub-envelopes for groceries and eating out.

Set up accounts and transfers

Add multiple accounts: cash, debit, or credit. When you move money between them, use a transfer. The listing says true transfers never double-count.

Automate repeating bills

Use recurring transactions for rent, subscriptions, or anything regular. Schedules are flexible, and a calendar preview shows what is coming. When you edit one, you choose the scope: this one, this and future, or all.

Use rollover

Rollover is set per envelope. Unspent money can carry forward, and the app shows carry-in and carry-out clearly. That way you can see why an envelope has the balance it has.

Match your pay schedule

Budget by month or choose a custom paycheck cycle, including biweekly. This lets your budget period line up with when you actually get paid.

Review with charts

Charts show cash flow and category spending. You can use custom date ranges and drill down into the details. Labels/tags and filters help you focus a report on one topic.

Tips for beginners

  • Start small. Begin with a few envelopes and add more as you learn what you need.
  • Log as you spend. Quick entry works best when you do it right away.
  • Use quick duplicate and quick split. They speed up repeat purchases and shared receipts.
  • Use undo/redo and edit history. Each transaction has its own history, so fixing a mistake is low-stress.
  • Turn on the security lock. You can use a PIN and biometric unlock.
  • Try notifications. Local reminders cover due bills, end-of-period reviews, and gentle nudges to log spending.
  • Bring in old data. CSV/XLSX import has a mapping wizard, and it runs locally.
  • Pick a look you like. Light and dark themes are included.

What's free and what's Pro

The core is free: envelopes, rollover, paycheck cycles, the recurring engine, multiple accounts and transfers, charts, CSV/XLSX import and export, security lock, themes, labels, and local notifications.

Pro is a one-time unlock. It adds advanced reports (multi-month compare and envelope drill exports), bulk edit, PDF exports, multiple books for separate budgets, and advanced themes.
